One of the biggest problems with a window screen is that the rubber tabs break of after years of wear and tear. If they are plastic or rubber they will only last as long a the screen mesh lasts. After about ten to twelve years a screen window needs to be rescreened and thats usually when you will get new tabs.
Tabs are supposed to be for removing screens in and out of the windows. You should not grab a screen from the frame if you can help it, this is the worst place to grab and pull. The frame will buckle and bend if pulled from center area of frame. Only use tabs for window removal.

Are you constantly fighting you sliding screen door? maybe it’s time to replace it. Most patio screen are made out of a light metal and come with little black handles and white or clear plastic rollers that will not hold up. There is a big difference when you get a new sliding door screen, number one, it glides smoothly across the track, no pulling or pushing necessary.
When ordering a new porch door, we brush out the track, lubricate it, then measure in three six places for the best fit possible, this is where we excel in our installation process. Tracks are larger and smaller in several areas in every house and this will affect even a new screen door if not measured right. You don’t want to be fighting a NEW screen door… do you?

We just finished rescreening a older house today in Thousand Oaks. The client had about 15 window screens and 2 sliding screen doors but not all were torn, just 10 really needed to be rescreened. My service does window and door rescreen on the spot and we have been doing screen repair work for screen doors in Thousand Oaks since 1993.
We I work on existing window screen, I usually fix the frames If I can, to make their fit better. Some frames bend a little after years of taking them in and out, so touching them up sometimes helps. I use the clears screen and double tabs on all screens, also I make sure that I use the right size spline so the insect mesh does not come off the frame when it gets pressure applied on it.

When the mesh on your window screens gets old and brittle, it turns white and shinny and it’s time for repair or replacing. If you don’t know much about screens, this is a good sign that it’s time to rescreen your windows. There are several types of mesh to choose from
These are the most popular here in Southern California and are also the screens I use the most. The regular screen is the most popular on windows and the clearest. The pet proof dog, cat and kid proof is used just for that and the solar blocks the suns rays up to 70%.

Today I worked on a total rescreen window screen and the client wanted to change the mesh on all the frames. The frames were in good conditions so I was able to just rescreening them. The just wanted the regular fiberglass insect screen which is the clearest mesh made that is so durable.
When the screen mesh gets old it turns white and brittle, bird will tend to take pieces for building nest. anything that touches it at this point will mark it or rip and tear it. The new screen is charcoal color and last for about 8 to 15 years depending on weather.

I was working in Thousand Oaks today and did some window screen repair. When I get the screens repaired, I use the existing frames and make sure all parts are straight. Then I’ll change the tabs and put two new ones on, this will make the screen installation easy.
After fixing the frame, I rescreen it with fiberglass screen mesh. The re-installation is a bit easier if the tracks are vacuumed, cleaned and lubricated. It makes the screen go in and out easy.

Changing your screens out for new ones is something you probably want a mobile screen company to do. Window screen replacement, as well as doors, is mostly measuring right, if you do the wrong measurements you will have problems with the way the screens fit.
I have been making screen doors and window screen repair and replacement in Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park since 1993 so I know just about all the window manufacture style and designs made since 1900 and installed in the west coast . This really comes in handy when you have to install a custom screen frame I just cut.
Yes, A mobile screen service cost more than the doit center, but, have you ever wondered why the screen mesh, Although new, just comes off the aluminum frame? Most hardware stores hire kids in the summer without enough experience to keep the screen mesh on the frame while Poochi is jumping on it.

After screens are old, bent and missing it’s probably time to either replace or repair them. After you realize that you are eating with flies, what is going to be your next move, jump in the car and head for the Thousand Oaks home depot for a fun day at the warehouse.
There are many types of window manufacture that have come and gone and trying to find a screen for a specific size and window can be very frustrating. If you are looking to make your own window screens custom by your self you will need to measure very carefully.
I recommend trying to look at other screens around the house and see how the fit, if there are no gap and the have a tight fit then look to see it you can measure the window screen the same way. The truth is that making screen frames right, so the fit snug yet come in and out easy enough, is very hard.
Rescreening a frame is one thing but trying to build a screen frame fir good when you ahve to measure something you have never done will be a bit of a challenge and I do not recommend it. I will give your home the best fitting screens you can get anywhere.

When you check for loose, broken or missing window screens start by checking how many you will need be replacing. The screens that you no longer have you will have to order. Now lets start checking each window screen individually for gaps, if the frame is too short it doesn’t matter how many times you put it in, it will keep falling off.
If they are coming off and don’t have a good fit, you may need to do more than just screen repair, you are going to have to replace them all together. Old bent screen frames that have a crack can not be fixed.
Next check each window screen to see if they are torn or have rips, animal tears and holes the mesh needs to be hole free in order for the insects to stay out. Each screen should have two tabs for quick installation and easy handling ,small screens like bathroom windows can have one tab.

There are hundreds if not thousands of different window manufactures that came and went in the last 70 years and they all left their strange idea of a window screen for us to figure out. Some work great and some give us a nervous breakdown every Spring. There windows are made out of metal and some are plastic or vinyl.
If you have a problem every time you try to repair or fix a screen to probably have a tight fit and will need to cut the frame down in most cases this works fine. To be sure we would have to the actual encasement to see if we do a new screen, it will be able to go in and out easely.
Some clients call me for replacing all the window screens in their home but after looking at the frames and condition of the mesh most clients will get a way with the least expensive option which is rescreenig or even simple repairing most of them instead of replacing them.
If your frames are bent or missing you have two choices
I can save the frame by fixing it, I’ll straighten it out and rescreen it, this will give the screen a new life and it will jast for many more years.
If the only option is to change the hole screen you will need to have frames made onsite and installed. Thats why not all screen repair is all the same, the best thing to do is to have an estimate done first and get a breakdown of the work that will be done.

When spring arrives it will be time for window screen repair. It happens every year, as soon as you start to open your windows you notice that you need to either replace a screen or repair a screen. After about ten years the screen will start to get brittle and eventually tear, at this point you will need to rescreen the metal frame.
Some screens are older and will need more work done to them, may beethe corners are plastic and brittle and need pulled out of the frame and changed for new corners. Some are even older wood frame screens don’t even have corners at all.
When a window screens are bent or bowed you will have gaps between the window trim and the frame so it will be necessary to repair screen frame. Screen repair is not always necessary, sometimes there will be a tiny pencil hole and you can patch a screen simply with mesh tape, that usually works wonders. Another quick fix that will help you get away without touching a screw driver is cleaning screens.
Have you ever noticed that after years they get dark and dirty and some even have paint on them as if the painter was hire for painting screens instead of the house. Cleaning a screen is very simple and much cheaper and easier than painting a screen. This is how it’s done, with a sponge, dish detergent and water wipe both sides, rinse and towel dry and your done.
